We understand the need and importance of our role within Corporate Social Responsibility.  It is important that the success of our business is not just focused on sales, but the positive impact that we can achieve through all aspects of our business, through our CSR policy.

A key platform in meeting this vision is to provide industry-leading levels of service and we will continue to operate the current ISO9001 Quality Management System, in which we are fully certified.   Spicers will strive to improve and enhance its performance by setting objectives and targets, which are continually reviewed to ensure they are understood, acted upon and met.

Our Communities

We aim to positively contribute and tackle the issues that impact our society, affecting the communities in which we operate. 

We strive to give time and financial commitment to a range of national and local charities.  Spicers is very proud to have created a formal charity under the name of 5 StarTM Charitable Trust, which supports local charities and organisations in raising funds for specific needs.     

Spicers hope to use local suppliers as much as possible, which not only helps to reduce the energy wasted and carbon emissions from deliveries but also support our local community.

As part of our commitment to the education sector any surplus office supplies are distributed to local schools.

Our Environment

Spicers is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our business and has achieved some notable industry firsts.  Which includes being the first UK Office Products Wholesaler to achieve ISO14001. We are proud of our green credentials and Spicers management are firmly dedicated to continually improving our sustainability and to minimising our carbon footprint.

Managing our environmental impact is a priority and an important part of our overall commitment to a responsible business.  Green considerations are part of our decision-making in every part of our business. We promote an extensive range of green products; we promote green practices among our customers; we constantly evaluate the environmental practices and credentials of our suppliers; we continually review our own operations to ensure that we improve our performance against our green objectives.

Transport efficiency is a priority consideration with our transport service providers. Through effective use of route planning software we have and will continue to reduce the mileage and CO2 emissions of our transport operations.  Consequently, a reduction in excess of 1,000,000 km has already been made; further demonstrating our commitment to ensuring our transport network becomes as efficient and environmentally sustainable as possible.

The UK Waste Electrical Equipment Regulations are one of a series of ‘producer responsibility’ regulations, which makes producers financially responsible for the recycling and recovery of their products at end of life.  The WEEE regulations aim to decrease the strain that WEEE has on the environment by increasing the reuse and recycling of WEEE products and reducing landfill.  Therefore we have a legal responsibility as a producer to provide a method of collecting back from our customers and end users for our obligated WEEE products.  These can be deposited at one of Regional Distribution Centres for onward disposal and recycling.

Combining maximum awareness among office products resellers and lean, green practices in our operations; our aim is to lead the office supplies industry in sustainability.


Our Suppliers

Spicers understand the importance to fulfill our social responsibilities by selecting suppliers who have honest credentials, which include respecting human ethics, labor rights, health and safety regulations and legal compliance.

We aim to build solid, strong partnerships with suppliers and will continually develop the relationship to provide an improved service and product offering.  Securing the right quality and price in order to provide our customers with a stable supply of products, to ensure we gain the full confidence of customers.

We help protect the global environment through sourcing environmentally friendly and recycled products, specifically through our PEFC accreditation.  In addition we promote catering products under the Fairtrade mark, as we believe in offering our customers a choice. That choice includes the ability to buy fairly traded products, which are sourced from producers in developing countries, who receive a fair price for their products.

To continuously increase awareness on environmental impacts, we offer specific focused publications to support our customers in developing their sales in this important area and offering a range to meet the environmental requirements of many organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility policies.

Suppliers are key in delivering our goal of providing customers with reliable products; we work closely with our suppliers to raise quality.  We constantly undertake regular reviews with, to include factory inspection; ensuring recognised standards and regulations are fully adhered to.

Our commitment to respect in the workplace includes our full support for international efforts to promote ethical principles and practices related to the prevention of the exploitation and abuse associated with modern slavery and human trafficking. We also expect commitment to these principles from all organisations with which we do business and will not support or do business knowingly involved in slavery or human trafficking.
